How to verify a doctor in China: the national registration query, step by step
Published
China's national doctor registration query lets you check whether a doctor holds a registered practice record. The National Health Commission runs it. This page does not rate or recommend any doctor.
Why registration is the thing to check
Under the Physicians Law (医师法), nobody may practise as a physician without a registered practice certificate. The law also says health authorities must publish the names of people whose registration they approve or cancel, and must offer registration lookup through websites.
Find the query
Follow the route in this order.
- Open the National Health Commission's service platform look-up page. It lists a licensed doctor query (执业医师查询) under its medical-staff group.
- Choose that query.
- The platform page forwards to the national doctor registration query.
The portal titles its route 医生执业注册信息查询, which means doctor practice registration information query. A Shenzhen district government answer quotes the same address for looking up a registered doctor's practice registration. A Huhhot municipal government notice says doctors registered by the approval authority have their information published and can be looked up.
Fill in the search form
The portal's own form text sets these rules:
- Every search condition is required (所有查询条件为必填项).
- Choose the province (请选择所在省份).
- Enter the doctor's full name (请输入全名). The form asks for 2 to 100 characters.
- Enter the institution. The form says at least four consecutive characters of the institution's name are enough for a fuzzy search, and it accepts 4 to 20 characters.
- Complete the picture check by clicking the indicated characters on the image (请按要求在验证码图片上点击相应的文字).
The portal's note uses 中国医学科学院北京协和医院 as an example institution name. The portal's examples are in Chinese, so have the doctor's name and the institution's name in Chinese characters ready.
Read the result
A match returns a record. The result labels in the portal's script include name, sex, doctor level, practice category, practice location, practice certificate code, main practice institution, scope of practice, issuing authority and multi-institution filing information. Our glossary of these labels gives the English for each.
The portal's notice shows a data cut-off time (查询数据截止到). The portal's text says results follow the data of the province-level health commissions (信息数据结果以各省、自治区、直辖市卫生健康委数据为准).
If the search finds no one
A search with no match shows the notice 未查询到符合条件的医师, which means no doctor matching the conditions was found.
A miss does not by itself prove the person is unregistered, because the name, province or institution may have been mistyped. Re-check each field against the Chinese original before drawing any conclusion.
When the query is unavailable
The portal says the system is under maintenance between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. (凌晨1点至凌晨5点) and cannot provide queries during that time.
What this page could not establish
- Whether the query accepts names written in Latin letters is unknown.
- Whether the query covers doctors licensed in Hong Kong, Macao or Taiwan, or abroad, is unknown.
- No English-language page about verifying a doctor was found among the official pages read.
- The search itself was not run, and no real result was captured.
Questions people ask
Is there an official way to check a Chinese doctor?
Yes. The National Health Commission's platform page forwards to the national doctor registration query.
What do I need to run the search?
The province where the doctor works, the doctor's full name and part of the institution's name, ideally in Chinese characters (whether Latin letters are accepted is unknown), plus the picture check.
Does the query show how good a doctor is?
No. The result labels in the portal's script are registration details, such as practice category, scope and issuing authority, and no quality rating appears among them. This page does not recommend any doctor or hospital.
What should I do if I cannot find the doctor?
Check the spelling of the name, the province and the institution against the Chinese original, and try again outside the maintenance window.
